ADVOCACY
Thanks to the strength of numbers, the ARQ makes the industry’s voice heard by the government. It advocates concrete issues such as fair tip management and access to appropriate tools. Joining the ARQ means giving yourself the means to act and move our industry forward.
Providing the industry with better tools for tip management
- Rebalancing compensation across trades by giving employers the ability to implement tip-sharing agreements.
- Maintain, and even increase, the tax credit on tips, given that restaurant employers have no control over the amount given by the customer and must pay it on the customer’s behalf during time off and vacations.
Find solutions to the industry’s labour shortage
- Improve access to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program to help employers hire skilled workers and deliver a high-quality customer experience.
- Encourage the renewal of work permits for foreign workers in the province to continue benefiting from the talents of people already integrated into our society.
- Promote the trades and professions in the restaurant industry to foster the development of the next generation of workers in our establishments.
Continue modernizing the rules surrounding the sale of alcohol
- Move away from the archaic practice of using tax stamps to track alcohol purchases. Better tools exist, and this would prevent operators from being fined for stamps not affixed upon delivery while streamlining the supply process.
- Allow the introduction of a wine merchant service for restaurants to develop a new revenue stream for operators.
- Require the SAQ to implement volume discounts for the restaurant industry. As major buyers, the industry’s significant contribution to SAQ sales should be recognized—as in other provinces—by granting a discount based on purchase volumes.
